Maggie Wood is a PhD student in Sociology at Washington University in St. Louis. While working in a charter school in Denver Public Schools, she became interested in understanding how inequality is produced organizationally within schools and how public school systems can be designed to more equitably support children’s socioeconomic mobility. Her research examines these questions through work on school choice and segregation, school closures, and federal place-based initiatives, including the Department of Education’s Promise Neighborhoods and the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Choice Neighborhoods.

She is a mixed-methods scholar who uses longitudinal school data, geospatial and census data, policy documents, interviews, and survey experiments. Her work has been published in City & Community and Canadian Ethnic Studies, with a forthcoming chapter in the Handbook of Inclusion Practice from Oxford University Press. She is a Clark-Fox Graduate Policy Scholar, a Just Education Policy Institute Scholar, and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow.
