WashU Sociology's Fall 2026 Colloquium Series: Scott Duxbury

The WashU Sociology Colloquium Series invites visiting scholars to share their work, while contributing to the general intellectual culture of the WashU Sociology Department.

Scott Duxbury is an Associate Professor and the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Sociology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He also serves as the Associate Editor of Sociological Methodology. His research fields are computational social science; crime, law, and deviance; the sociology of punishment; social networks; methodology; public opinion and American politics; race and racism; and media and technology. 

His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and has received awards from the American Sociological Association sections on Crime, Law, and Deviance; Mathematical Sociology; Methodology; Sociology of Law; Decision-making, Social Networks, and Society; and Communication, Information Technology, and Media Sociology. He is the recipient of the Ruth Shonle Cavan Young Scholar Award from the American Society of Criminology, the inaugural Junior Scholar Award from the ASC division on Public Opinion and Policy, and the Junior Scholar Award from the ASA section on Drugs and Society. He received his PhD from Ohio State University in 2020.
